Manabu Ikeda

Flowers from the Wreckage

https://www.mocacleveland.org/exhibitions/manabu-ikeda-flowers-from-the-wreckage

This Japanese artist seeks inspiration from his surroundings to bring attention and awe to viewers, as a way of sending warnings about the painful reality of environmental disasters. Central to his practice are metaphors of grief and the undeniable aspects of life that are often beyond society’s control, including the fundamental forces of Mother Nature. Ikeda’s drawings also reveal human resilience and the ability to rise above devastating situations when it appears impossible.(https://audainartmuseum.com/exhibitions/manabu-ikeda-flowers-from-the-wreckage/)

(As of March 11, 2024, the clock counts down to July 21, 2029 at 1:00 PM.)

The Climate Clock was launched in 2015 to provide a measuring stick against which viewers can track climate change mitigation progress. The date shown when humanity reaches 1.5°C will move closer as emissions rise, and further away as emissions decrease. An alternative view projects the time remaining to 2.0°C of warming.[1][2] The clock is updated every year to reflect the latest global CO2 emissions trend and rate of climate warming.[1] As of March 11, 2024, the clock counts down to July 21, 2029 at 1:00 PM. On September 20, 2021, the clock was delayed to July 28, 2028, likely because of the COP26 Conference and the land protection by indigenous peoples.

Wetlands, encompassing ecosystems like rivers, swamps, and mangroves, are essential for biodiversity and human wellbeing. They provide critical services such as flood control and water purification. Despite their importance, wetlands are declining rapidly due to human activities and climate change. World Wetlands Day emphasizes the link between wetlands and human health, aiming to shift perceptions to recognize wetlands as valuable rather than wastelands, urging for their conservation to support livelihoods and ecosystem services.

Jan 29

The International Day of Clean Energy on 26 January was declared by the General Assembly (resolution A/77/327) as a call to raise awareness and mobilize action for a just and inclusive transition to clean energy for the benefit of people and the planet.

26 January is also the founding date of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), a global intergovernmental agency established in 2009 to support countries in their energy transitions, serve as a platform for international cooperation, and provide data and analyses on clean energy technology, innovation, policy, finance and investment.
